I haven’t had the time to update pages
Also Infernodrakon, Ankylosaurus and Pliosaurs will appear.
Also a bit more info that could be added;
SPOILERS
New images from both The Guardian and the BBC;
And it is confirmed that Torvosaurus will appear. I’m still reading through the articles, however.
Also @11duckhunt @Dinoguy22 or @Antiliun looks like the WWD 2025 page has been protected or something. Can you add that the series will release on the 25th of May for BBC IPlayer to the page?
Sorry, I don’t really know who the staff are here
Maybe the current admins know? @Antiliun @11duckhunt (sorry for the notifications)
Recently, we have gotten our first trailer for Walking with Dinosaurs 2025, which showcases an array of species. However, I believe that there are many species not already shown. Here are the species that are confirmed, as well as ones I believe will appear, in the first two episodes.
Episode I: The Lourinhã Formation
Confirmed
Lusotitan: This new Sauropod will be the main focus of the episode, as one of them attempt to find a mate. They will be showcased with a speculative inflatable air sac on their crest, similar to the Prehistoric Planet Dreadnoughtus.
Others
Allosaurus: I doubt that Lusotitan will be the only species to appear in the episode. I reckon we will see the return of Allosaurus, as it was an iconic species from the original series, and also one of the large theropods of the formation. We will have at least one carnivore, as Thomas Holtz stated, "I mean **something** has to be a menace to the Lusotitan". Additionally, we have an image of a theropod eye with the reflection of a Lusotitan in it.
Miragaia/Dacentrurus: As this is the only Jurassic Episode, I reckon they will try to show off as much varied Jurassic fauna as possible, and what better species to show than a Stegosaur?
Dryosaurus: Another dinosaur from the original series I think may return is Dryosaurus, as it could showcase diversity in the ecosystem.
Torvosaurus: Torvosaurus has become fairly popular recently, so I reckon that there is a fair chance of it appearing. Besides, it could potentially fight an Allosaurus for the Lusotitan. Additionally, the comment that Holtz replied to was talking about Torvosaurus.
Episode II: Cedar Mountain Formation
Confirmed
Utahraptor: It looks like Utahraptor and Gastonia are going to be the main dinosaurs in this episode. The Utahraptors are depicted accurately with feathers, and personally I really like their colour schemes.
Gastonia: One of my favourite Ankylosaurs finally makes an appearance. There will at some point be a fight between two Gastonias, and later a fight between one and a Utahraptor.
Planicoxa: This Iguanodont is known to be making a brief appearance in this episode, making it one of two Ornithopods confirmed for the series.
Others
Falcarius: I doubt many other species will appear in this episode. Falcarius is a bizarre early Therizinosaur, and I feel like they might appear to show off the strange animals that evolved in the early Cretaceous.
I don’t know if you heard the news, but a new series of Walking with Dinosaurs is releasing later this year.
Ok. Still, the pterosaur design, whether it be Quetz or not, had pycnofibres, something which the previous species lacked.
I don’t mean that dinosaurs can speak in this universe, nor that their thoughts are all toilet-humor jokes. But I am saying that the events showcased, of a Gorgosaurus vs a Pachyrhinosaur with a hole in its frill, probably happened.
Fair enough.
But even then, there is the Quetz and Edmonto.
So, as we probably all know now, there is going to be a 2025 reboot of WWD with updated designs and ideas. But… what does that mean for the canon of WWD? Is there a single cohesive canon? I’ll explain.
Back in the late 90’s, the original Walking With Trilogy dropped, alongside the Ballad of Big Al. It was incredible. All audiences enjoyed it. It is still widely considered the best dinosaur documentary by many. The designs have been outdated since then, with even some species, like Anatotitan and Othnielia (two of my fav 😔) being reclassified.
This was swiftly followed by the Chased by Dinosaurs and Sea Monsters, starring the GOAT Nigel Marven. While it did, in large part, showcase animals from different locations and times to its predecessor, the opening episode of Sea Monsters began with Nigel being chased by a Tyrannosaur. Only… it is different? This individual was much more accurate than the WWD version, but these are within the same canon? Right!
The Walking with Dinosaurs Movie released a while later, again with different designs. Yet it still falls under the Walking With IP, so therefore is canon (as far as I am concerned). Edmontosaurus and Quetzalcoatlus both show up within the film, once more with drastically more updated designs than the original trilogy, two decades prior.
Now we come to 2025. WWD returns to BBC, and once more the dinosaurs will have updated designs. The series is also going to feature some dinosaurs previously seen, like Tyrannosaurus.
So why do I make this point? Is there even a canon to be had? I reckon that within the canon, no designs are fixed. Sure, the events are, but the look of the dinosaurs changed depending on when the entry to the series comes out. For example, the more modern the entry, the more accurate the designs are. Nothing will change storyline wise; the Liopleurodon will still die on that beach regardless of its size, the Therizinosaurus would still fend off the Tarbosaurus regardless of the strength of its claws, and a Pachyrhinosaurus did knock out the tooth of a Gorgosaur, regardless of feathers.
What do you guys think? Let me know below!
Hopefully they make a Season 2.
It was either sold, or remains decaying like many other old animatronics.
