Araucaria is a genus of evergreen coniferous trees in the family Araucariaceae.
Facts[]
There are 19 extant species in the genus, with a Gondwanan natural distribution in New Caledonia (where 13 species are endemic), Norfolk Island, eastern Australia, New Guinea, Argentina, Chile, and southern Brazil.
In Walking with... Series[]
Araucaria conifers were filmed in the background of several episodes of WWD, including New Blood and Death of a Dynasty. Because those trees had evolved early in the Mesozoic, around the time of late Triassic/early Jurassic, their presence in the background had added authenticity to the series.
