Azhdarchids are a group of pterodactyloid pterosaurs that have specialized for a terrestrial lifestyle.

Most azhdarchids evolved in the Cretaceous period.

As mentioned above, azhdarchids are suited for life on land, although some may have waded in water for food, like wading birds.

Appearances in the programmesEdit

Walking with DinosaursEdit

Giant of the Skies (Episode)Edit

This episode featured Tapejara, although, unusual for Azhdarchids, it lived by the ocean.

Death of a DynastyEdit

Quetzalcoatlus was an azhdarchid flying over a river and briefly resting, as Deinosuchus were stalking it.

Chased by DinosaursEdit

The Giant ClawEdit

An Azhdarcho was briefly seen in the episode.

Walking with Dinosaurs (film)Edit

Quetzalcoatlus also appeared in the movie where it preyed on Pachyrhinosaurus juveniles and one was escaping the forest fire and was killed by Gorgosaurus. It should be noted that the genus name wasn't used or mentioned, as they were only identified as Azhdarchids.

  • While Tapejara has been reclassified as Tupandactyuls (much like when Ornithocheirus got reclassified as Tropeognathus), both genus are in the Azhdarchid category(see
