Butterflies are a type of insect that orginated in the Early Cretaceous period and still live today. One of them was featured in last episode of Walking with Dinosaurs, where it fed of a flower in the same way that modern species do. (In fact, it was a modern butterfly of some kind, rather than computer graphics.) This was shown to illustrate the point that butterflies (and moths) had not only survived the K/T extinction event 65 MYA, they have barely changed at all since then as well.
