Dromaeosaurus("Running lizard") was a medium-sized dromaeosaur, about 1m(6ft) long and 15kg(33lb) in weight, from the Late Cretaceous of Alberta and the western United States 76-72mya. It is unique among dromaeosaurs as, unlike other medium-sized dromaeosaurs such as Velociraptor, it had a short, massive skull, deep mandible, and robust teeth, which seem to be made for crushing and tearing meat due to the heavy wear marks on them. It had a very stiff tail, like all dromaeosaurs, and it had a huge, sickle-like claw on its second toe, most likely used to slash the throat of its prey. It was the first non-dubious dromaeosaur found and lends its name to the family. It is closely related to the large dromaeosaurs Utahraptor and Achillobator.

In Walking With Dinosaurs, it is errorously portrayed as living along side Tyrannosaurus rex, Torosaurus, Ankylosaurus, and Anatotitan, when it did not live at the same time as these four animals. At the beginning of the episode in which it appears, Death of A Dynasty, it is seen hunting a small flock of Parksosaurus. It failed in its attempt, however, and screeched in fury in their direction. It is later seen trying to raid the mother Tyrannosaurus' nest. However, the mother noticed the little oppurtunist, and roared him way, once again screeching in anger at his failed attempt. Later on, a pack of Dromaeosaurus try to get at a Torosaurus calf. While the first two ditract the other members of the herd, two more attack the calf, and persistantly attack the Torosaurus herd. Morning reveals that the Dromaeosaurus had finally had a victory: they had successfully killed the calf. They made their final appearance towards the end of the programme as one runs away right before teh comet that supposedly pushed the dinosaurs off the edge strikes the Earth.
