Graptolites are a group of colonial, filter-feeding animals that lived from the mid Cambrian to the early Carboniferous.

Facts[]

There were at least two orders of extinct graptolites: Dendroidea and Graptoloidea.

Graptolites were invertebrate colonial animals that lived inside tubes connected to the main body. They became free-floating animals during the Ordovician and usually fed on small animals that lived in the open ocean. Graptolite fossils can be used to determine the depth and temperatures of prehistoric ocean habitats.
