reptiles such as Euparkeria and Petrolacosaurus, lizards evolved much later in evolutionary time, and evolved durring the Late Jurassic, about the same time as the evolution of birds. Most lizards were egg-laying animals, but some may have given birth to live young instead.

Durring the Late Cretaceous, some lizards, such as Mosasaur, adapted to posses an aquatic lifestyle. Dispite their dinosaur-like appearance, Mosasaurs closest living relatives are monitor lizards.
