Maiasaura ("good mother lizard") was a hadrosaur dinosaur from North America, famous for taking care of its young.
Facts[]
Maiasaura was one of the first dinosaurs, which was discovered with concrete proof that it made crocodile-like nests and took care of its tiny young. It also lived in herds, like other hadrosaurs did - herds that were composed of both adults and juveniles.
Unlike lambeosaurine hadrosaurs like Corythosaurus or Parasaurolophus, Maiasaura's crest was almost absent, short and broad - a bony projection over this dinosaur's eyes. This makes Maiasaura a hadrosaurine dinosaur instead, similar to Anatotitan and Saurolophus, but it also belonged to its own subgroup, the Maiasaurini.
