Majungasaurus (name meaning "Mahajanga lizard"), sometimes known as Majungatholus, was an abelisaurid theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period in what is now Africa.
Facts[]
Majungasaurus was a medium-sized theropod, measuring anywhere between 18 to 23 feet (5.6 to 7 m). It had a singular, dome-like horn on the top of its head, which caused paleontologists to initially assign it as a pachycephalosaur. Much like the bull-like horns of its more famous cousin, Carnotaurus, the horn was likely used for display.
Alongside Tyrannosaurus rex and Allosaurus, Majungasaurus is one of the few dinosaurs to show evidence of cannibalism, with some fossil specimens possessing bite marks left behind by other Majungasaurus.
