Pareiasaurs are a group of anapsid reptiles classified in the family Pareiasauridae.

They were large herbivores that flourished during the Permian period.

Pareiasaurs were large, heavily built reptiles, mostly about 2–3 m in length. They show some skeletal similarities to turtles and tortoises and maybe were their relatives or even ancestors.

Scutosaurus was the pareiasaur featured in this episode. It is the only pareiasaur to be featured in any of the IP productions to this date. It was depicted as prey for gorgonopsids and it defended by living in herds. It also swallowed stones to help it grind food, and it died out during the Permian-Triassic extinction without leaving any descendants.
