Plesiopleurodon[1] was a pliosaur that lived during the Early to Late Cretaceous period. It was anatomically similar to the larger Liopleurodon - a distantly related species that lived millions of years before it.

Behind the scenes[]
The model of Liopleurodon was reused to represent the creature. In fact, it is identified as a Liopleurodon in the US version, giving that animal an additional appearance.
Long neck Plesiosaurs and short neck Pliosaurs are now thought to have flukes on their tails, and not smooth lizard-like tails like in the series.
Plesiopleurodon actually lived in the late days of the Cretaceous, not the beginning of the Cretaceous.
