Rhinoceroses, known colloquially as rhinos, are a family of mammals. Although only native to Africa and Asia in modern day, they once spread globally.
List of rhinoceroses[]
White Rhinoceroses are among the several extant species, though they are now endangered. During the Pleistocene, species like the Woolly Rhinoceros were around and were adapted to the hostile conditions.
Indricotheres were a type of rhinoceros of the Eocene, Oligocene, and Miocene. They are related to living rhinoceroses, mostly to Asian rhinoceros genera more than to African rhinoceros genera.
Appearance in Walking with Beasts[]
In Next of Kin, a pair of White Rhinoceros could be seen in the African plains browsing amongst the grasslands. One of them watched a Dinofelis prowl the fields as it crossed their path.
In Mammoth Journey, a lone Woolly Rhinoceros browses among the snow for food, but abruptly stopped its meal after gaining the scent of a Neanderthal close by. The rhino charged at the human, and hit his chest, injuring him. The rhinoceros walked away to continue to its grazing.
