Sordes was a small pterosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period in what is now Asia. It was mentioned in the Rhamphorhynchus entry in The Complete Guide To Prehistoric Life. It was also mentioned in Walking With Dinosaurs: The Official Sticker Album.

Facts[]

Sordes was first described in 1971 by Soviet paleontologist Aleksandr Grigorevich Sharov from a crushed but relatively complete skeleton. It had relatively short wings and had a wingspan of around 2 feet (0.63 m). Fossils of Sordes show it possessed a dense layer of hair-like filaments, called pycnofibres, which aided in insulation and body heat retention.
