Styracosaurus was a ceratopsian dinosaur, one that was more closely related to Pachyrhinosaurus than to Torosaurus or Triceratops.

Styracosaurus had a rather long nasal horn (unlike Pachyrhinosaurus, which had a bony nose boss rather than a horn), but vegistal brow horns. The "spikes" in its name refer to the dinosaur's frill which had several long spikes at its end. Styracosaurus was smaller than the other horned dinosaurs depicted in the programmes, at roughly 5.5 m in length.

Styracosaurus lived in North America at the end of the Cretaceous period, and several large-scale bone beds of their fossils were found, starting from 1913.
